Redness and couperose: gentle rather than harsh

What is behind it?

Redness has many causes: a weakened skin barrier, overly aggressive skincare, cold and heated indoor air, sun, alcohol or spicy food. With couperose, fine veins on the cheeks and nose are permanently dilated and visible. If redness persists, small bumps appear or the skin stings strongly, rosacea may be behind it; this is a skin condition that should be treated by a doctor.

What we do at La Finesse

With reddened skin, the rule is: as gently as possible. In the classic facial we work with calming products and avoid aggressive peels. The HydraFacial® is gentle and can be used for many sensitive skin types. We clarify in the skin analysis whether it suits your skin. Advice is another important part: the skin often calms down once the skincare at home is right.

What you can do yourself

Cleanse mildly, wash with lukewarm rather than hot water, avoid fragrances and alcohol in your skincare, use sun protection every day and protect the skin from the cold in winter.

When to see a dermatologist?

With persistent redness accompanied by small bumps, stinging or swollen skin, if rosacea is suspected and if the skin does not calm down despite mild skincare. Dilated veins themselves are treated by doctors.

Redness and couperose in Bern: your questions, our answers

What is couperose?

Couperose refers to fine, permanently dilated veins, usually on the cheeks and nose. The skin there looks reddened and often reacts sensitively to heat, cold or harsh skincare. Couperose is harmless in itself, but the skin needs particularly gentle care.

Is it rosacea?

Not necessarily. Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition with persistent redness, often with small bumps, stinging or swelling. Only a doctor can determine whether it is rosacea. If we see signs of it in the skin analysis, we recommend that you have it checked.

Can you remove the veins?

No. Dilated veins are treated by doctors, for example with special vascular lasers. We care for and calm the skin and help reduce redness through the right skincare.

Which treatment suits sensitive, red skin?

A gentle classic facial with calming products. Depending on the skin, a HydraFacial® can also be suitable. We decide which treatment makes sense after the skin analysis.

Will my skin be even redder after the treatment?

With sensitive skin we deliberately work gently. Slight redness directly after the treatment is possible and usually fades quickly. Tell us beforehand what your skin reacts sensitively to.

What should I avoid with reddened skin?

Hot water, sauna heat directly on the face, scrubs with coarse grains, skincare with fragrances or a lot of alcohol, strong sun and large changes in temperature. Alcohol and spicy food can also intensify redness.

When should I see a dermatologist?

If redness persists, small bumps or nodules form, the skin stings or swells, or if nothing improves despite mild skincare. If the eyes are affected (stinging, dryness), it is also important to have this checked by a doctor.

How much does a treatment for red skin cost?

The classic facial with soothing products costs from CHF 100, the HydraFacial® from CHF 200. We decide which treatment suits you after the skin analysis.
